The imam of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen told a reporter he is “pro-Trump” and that a Donald Trump presidency could have “some good effects” for Muslim Americans.
Surprisingly, Imam Syed Rahman spoke with WPTV reporter Meghan McRoberts and said he didn’t think Trump would be as scary for Muslims as people think.
Unexpected statement: Imam says he is "pro trump". Says if trump were in office, the anger would shift away from Muslims. @WPTV

Dr. Rahman is from the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce and confirmed to WPTV that the gunman worshiped at his mosque about four times a week and that he has known Mateen and his family since Mateen was a child — The Washington Post reported Sunday that Mateen was there as recently as two days ago.
McRoberts shared a video clip of her interview on Twitter:

Mateen is the second person to worship at the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce before committing an act of terrorism, WPTV reported.
One of the first Americans to carry out a suicide bombing overseas in 2014 also worshiped at the mosque.
Moner-Muhammed Abu Salha was a suicide bomber in Syria in 2014, but Rahman insisted that this was just a coincidence.
“This is a coincidence. There is no teaching given about extremism in this mosque,” he told WPTV. “There is nothing coming in the sermon or the speeches.”
