Donald Trump ran the table with all five states casting votes Tuesday night and finished the Republican primary in record fashion, having won the last 16 contests.
With 1536 delegates, almost 300 more delegates than the 1237 needed to secure the nomination, the days when it was questionable whether the real estate tycoon would ever get there are but a faint memory.
Speaking at the Briarcliff Cliff Manor in Westchester, N.Y., the presumptive GOP nominee promised to fight for the American people if elected president.
“I understand the responsibility of carrying the mantle and I will never, ever let you down, Trump said. “Too much work, too many people, blood, sweat, and tears. I am never going to let you down.”
“I will make you proud of your party and our movement,” he added.
With Hillary Clinton now having secured the needed delegates to be the Democratic nominee, Trump went after her hard in his remarks.
“The Clintons have turned the politics of personal enrichment into an art form for themselves,” Trump said. “They’ve made hundreds of millions of dollars selling access, selling favors, selling government contracts, and I mean hundreds of millions of dollars.”
“Secretary Clinton even did all of the work on a totally illegal private server,” he added. “Something that how she’s getting away, folks, nobody understands.”
Trump then announced that he will be giving “a major speech” early next week that will focus on “all of the things that have taken place with the Clintons.”
