The Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens said it was important for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee to lose big so voters learn their lesson.
“It’s important that Donald Trump and what he represents — this kind of ethnic quote conservatism or populism — be so decisively rebuked that the Republican Party and Republican voters will forever learn their lesson that they cannot nominate a man so manifestly unqualified to be president in any way shape or form.”
“I most certainly will not vote for Donald Trump,” he told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria. “I will vote for the least left-wing opponent to Donald Trump.”
Stephens has been a conservative critic of Trump from the beginning, writing in a March 28 column headlined, “Trump Is Obama Squared” that both Obama and Trump were “epic narcissists.”
He also told Zakaria that he wished to see Trump “the biggest loser” in presidential politics.
It’s likely the GOP voters would rather teach Stephens a lesson. If he keeps talking down to them, perhaps they might.
