Sen. Marco Rubio said he plans to attend the Republican National Convention, where he intends to speak on behalf of Donald Trump and will release his delegates to him.
“I want to be helpful; I don’t want to be harmful, because I don’t want Hillary Clinton to be president,” Rubio told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday.
“Look, my policy differences with Donald Trump — I spent 11 months talking about them. So I think they’re well understood,” Rubio said. “That said … I don’t want Hillary Clinton to be president. If there’s something I can do to help that from happening, and it’s helpful to the cause, I’d most certainly be honored to be considered for that.”
The Florida Republican also indicated that he hasn’t given up on politics.
“I can tell you I enjoy public service. If there’s an opportunity to serve again in a way that I feel passionate about, I’ll most certainly think I would explore it,” Rubio said. “But I don’t know where I’m going to be in two years. I don’t know what my life will look like then.”
Rubio reiterated his previous decision that he wasn’t interested in being Trump’s running mate. Although he will support his party’s presumptive presidential nominee, policy differences between the two indicate that he “wouldn’t be the right choice” for Trump.
“He won the nomination and he deserves to have a running mate that more fully embraces some of the things he stands for,” Rubio told Tapper.
Rubio’s single term in office as as U.S. senator will end in January, 2017. Before that he was speaker of the Florida House of Representatives.
Thursday night Trump voiced his support for Rubio.

The primary election for the U.S. Senate in Florida will be held on August 30, 2016, and when Rubio announced his run for the presidency, he left that seat open.
So far eight Republicans and three Democrats have entered race. Candidates must state their intention to run by June 24.
