Actor George Clooney is taking his contempt for Donald Trump on the road, and told the press at the Cannes Film Festival that the presumed Republican presidential nominee will never be commander in chief.

When approached by reporters, rather than sticking to topics in which he has at least a passing expertise, he chose to drone on about American presidential politics.

“There’s not going to be a President Donald Trump,” Clooney told the press.

“That’s not going to happen. Fear is not going to be something that drives our country. We’re not going to be scared of Muslims or immigrants or women. We’re not actually afraid of anything,” he continued.

The actor hosted a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in San Francisco last month, where guests were scalped as much as $353,400 depending upon where they sat. Lacking any sense of irony, that same week he lamented about the “obscene” amount of money in politics.

Rather than promote his latest film “Money Monster,” which was his purpose in attending the festival, he opined as to what led to the Trump mania.

“Trump is actually a result in many ways of the fact that much of the news programs didn’t follow up and ask tough questions,” he said.

“Twenty-four-hour news doesn’t mean you get more news, it means you get the same news more. More and more and more you hear these guys, their ratings go up because they can show an empty podium saying ‘Donald Trump is about to speak,’ as opposed to taking those 30 seconds and saying, ‘Well, let’s talk about refugees,’ which is the biggest crisis going on in the world right now.”

When asked to comment on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends” Friday, Trump took issue with some of the actors statements.

“I think I got asked the toughest questions on Earth, I’ll tell you,” he said, and then lobbed a shot in Clooney’s direction.

“As far as George Clooney is concerned, let’s put it this way — he’s no Cary Grant.”
