“I’ll be loyal to the Republican Party”…
“Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson says he’s all in for Donald Trump now that his first choice, Ted Cruz is out.
“I’ll be loyal to the Republican Party,” the reality TV star told the Daily Mail. “I went for Cruz because I knew that he was a strict constitutionalist, and I know that he does vet his thinking through the Bible like I do… So I thought ‘Hey, I can identify with this cat.’”
Robertson further explained the religious motivation in supporting Cruz.
“It was a way to share the good news of Jesus with people when I spoke on his behalf,” he said. “But now [Cruz] is out. Trump’s in. So I’ll vote for him, no question.”
The decision aligns him with his son, Willie, who endorsed Trump in January.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee was only too happy to hear the news.
“Wow! Such a great honor to have Phil’s endorsement,” Trump said. “‘His son, Willie, has become a great friend of my son, Don. What a great family.”
The elder Robertson, who said the country is in need of “a spiritual fix,” reasoned that Trump is a better alternative than the Democratic option.
“I look at the alternative, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders – and then honestly I look at Trump and say, ‘What kind of leader is Trump going to be?’ No one really knows,” he said. “It will just sort itself out.”
‘But they’re putting him in there against Hillary Clinton – and it looks like it’s going to be her – so I’ll definitely be there for him.”
