The son of Osama bin Laden has called for divided jihadis in Syria to unite against the West in freeing Jerusalem.
Hamza bin Laden, son of the former al-Qaida leader, called Syria the “best battlefield” in “liberating al-Quds”, the Arabic name for Jerusalem, The Guardian reported.
“The Islamic umma (nation) should focus on jihad in al-Sham (Syria) … and unite the ranks of mujahideen there,” he said in an undated audio message posted online, according to the Guardian. “There is no longer an excuse for those who insist on division and disputes now that the whole world has mobilized against Muslims.”
“The road to liberating Palestine is today much shorter compared to before the blessed Syrian revolution,” said bin Laden who, according to U.S. intelligence officials, was being groomed by his father as a future leader of the group, the Guardian reported.
The audio message followed one by al-Qaida’s current leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, who also called for unity while continuing to reject the Islamic State and its caliphate.
“The matter of unity today is one of life and death,” al-Zawahiri said Saturday in a message posted online over the weekend, according to the Guardian. “Either you unite to live as Muslims with dignity, or you bicker and separate and so are eaten one by one,”
