Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has a 34 point lead over his rivals in California, a new poll shows.
Trump has the support of 54 percent of registered Republican voters in the state, according to a SurveyUSA poll published by ABC7 Monday.
That is a significant lead by the GOP front-runner over his rivals Sen. Ted Cruz, who follows at 20 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 16 percent.
The GOP candidates each spoke at California’s Republican convention over the weekend ahead of the state’s primary on June 7, in an attempt to grab the delegates needed to secure the party’s nomination.
Trump’s lead comes just days after violent riots by mostly young Latinos broke out protesting the GOP front-runner who was giving a speech in Costa Mesa.
The poll also showed that 51 percent of registered voters in California have an extremely negative view of Trump. 88 percent of strong Democrats also share this negative view. On the other hand, the poll showed that 14 percent of registered voters and 45 percent of strong Republicans have an extremely positive view of Trump.
