Defying conventional conservative thought, Donald Trump said that people should use the bathroom of their choice no matter what their sex at birth.
The Republican presidential front-runner was asked the question Thursday on an NBC News “Today” show town hall in light of North Carolina’s recent law restricting people to the public restroom facilities designated for their sex at birth.
“North Carolina did something that was very strong, and they are paying a big price and there’s a lot of problems,” Trump said.
“North Carolina, what they are going through with all of the business that’s leaving and the strife– and that’s on both sides. Leave it the way it is. There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble,” he said.
Later into the segment host Matt Lauer asked, “So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and wanted to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?”
“That is correct,” Trump said.
