One of the organizers of Wednesday’s “Million Student March” locked horns with Neil Cavuto Thursday, calling capitalism an “illegitimate” economic system.
Wednesday’s demonstration called for free college education, forgiveness of all student loan debt and a $15 minimum wage for all student campus workers.
Darletta Scruggs, one of the organizers and a Sen. Bernie Sanders supporter, called Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton “a candidate of Wal-Mart, Wall Street and war,” during a contentious 18-minute interview where she constantly talked over the Fox Business Network host.
She wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase, “Socialist Alternative,” and went on to say that capitalism “cannot produce any substantial quality of life no matter how hard we work.”
The government “needs to reassess its priorities,” she said. “If there’s $1 trillion to invest in nuclear weapons, there is certainly money to invest in education.”
Scruggs agreed with Cavuto that it’s not just a matter of increasing taxes, but also where the tax dollars are being spent.
“We’re spending our money on wars, we’re spending our money on tax breaks for big, wealthy corporations,” Scruggs said. “This system of capitalism has proven itself illegitimate, and it cannot provide basic things like education, shelter, health care.”
