Trump makes surprise visit, generous donation to 9/11 Memorial Museum

Donald Trump‘s decision to tour the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City on Saturday was not nearly as surprising as the reaction some had to his visit.

More than 14 years after the Twin Towers fell, Trump toured the museum with his wife, Melania, while reporters waited outside, according to The New York Times. The Republican front-runner reportedly also donated $100,000 to the facility.

Trump’s response to rival Ted Cruz’s comment about “New York values” during the Fox Business debate in January was perhaps his best moment in all the GOP debates combined. Pointing to the attack on 9/11, Trump praised the city, saying “when the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York.”

That theme was repeated in a statement released by the campaign on Saturday’s visit:

But in the run up to next week’s GOP primary in the state, some in the Big Apple weren’t feeling the camaraderie on Saturday.
