America’s mayor Rudy Giuliani has stated that he will vote for Donald Trump in New York’s April 19th primary.
But don’t call it an endorsement.
According to CNN, Giuliani, who will serve as a New York delegate, hopes to somehow parlay this into “more clout” at the Republican convention in Cleveland – whatever that means.
Not surprisingly, both sides made as good a light of this as possible. RedState, an anti-Trump mouthpiece, led with the headline, “BREAKING. Rudy Giuliani Does Not Endorse Donald Trump” while reporting who Giuliani intends to vote for at the bottom of the article.
Reacting to his friend’s intention, Donald Trump said, “Everyone has tremendous respect for Rudy Giuliani and this is such a great honor. Rudy knows me well and therefore it is an even greater honor than it would normally be.”
According to Giuliani, “He’s my friend, and I think of the candidates, of the choices that I have, he’s the best choice for president,” Giuliani told the Times. “He’s a better choice than [Texas Sen. Ted] Cruz and a more realistic choice than [Ohio Gov. John] Kasich.
That’s about as close to an endorsement as one can get without actually making an endorsement.
Here are a few reactions on Twitter:
Just heard on @nprnews that @realDonaldTrump getting "boost" from Rudy Giuliani endorsement. You mean like the Chris Christie boost?

Giuliani's overdetermined Trump endorsement is the latest piece of evidence that we're living in a crappy dystopian alternate-reality novel.
