The Islamic terror attacks in the Belgium capital of Brussels has rocked the world, but don’t expect the U.S. to be entirely out of harm’s way.
Although Brussels has been deemed an official breeding ground for Islamic terrorism, with many terrorists coming out of the Belgium-Muslim neighborhood known as Molenbeek, terrorists living in Brussels can still find their way into the U.S., according to a Free Beacon report.
The current visa waiver program employed in the U.S. has a loophole that could allow Muslim terrorists flying from Belgium to legally enter the country with very few background checks, similar to how San Bernardino terrorist Tashfeen Malik arrived on U.S. soil.
Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., told the Free Beacon that the visa waiver program policy does not mandate extended and robust background checks on foreigners looking to come to the U.S. who currently live in Islamic terrorist strongholds such as Brussels.
“The visa waiver reform, this is something we have been perusing and the [Obama] administration has brushed us off at every turn,” DeSantis said in the report. “It’s the case that if those folks are citizens of Belgium they qualify for the visa waiver program and can hop on a plane and get here.”
Back in December of 2015, DeSantis said, “At least six of the Paris attackers could have attempted to enter the country under [the visa waiver] program,” pointing out the evident but ignored loopholes that can be taken advantage of by war-mongering terrorists seeking entry.
While brushing off the loopholes in the visa waiver program that terrorists could exploit, the Obama administration has also been careless in deporting foreigners in the country who overstay their visas.
Those individuals have the potential to radicalize inside the U.S. without the federal government ever knowing their whereabouts.
