Standing just feet from the U.S.-Mexico border, Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz challenged President Barack Obama to move the White House down to the southern border.
With local ranchers, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels, Arizona House Speaker David Gowan and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry serving as a backdrop, Cruz held a news conference in Douglas, Az., to call attention to the crisis on the border, a crisis Americans in the region live with daily through break-ins, robberies and even murder.
“President Obama tells us the border is secure,” Cruz said. “Well, I invite him to move the White House down to the southern border and let’s see how secure it is.”

Cruz scoffed at the suggestion that the border is secure, pointing out that his young daughter could scale fences in place in no time.
“That unsecured border is a big part of the problem,” he said. “My five-year-old daughter could’ve climbed over or under that fence in about 20 seconds”
“That is indicative of the federal government that’s not doing its job, that’s not even trying to do its job,” Cruz continued. “One important thing to remember is we don’t even have to change any of the laws, just enforce them.”
He stressed that the “coyotes” smuggling illegal immigrants across the border “are not goodhearted social workers,” but “hardened, vicious, violent criminals” who regularly leave women and children to die in the desert.
For what it’s worth, Cruz’s rival, GOP front-runner Donald Trump, has been endorsed by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has taken a hard stance against illegal immigration, and former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer.
