Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump reiterated Wednesday that the United States should put an end to accepting all Syrian refugees — at least temporarily.
“You’re gonna have to figure that out, OK?” Trump told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “We have to be very vigilant. We have to be very careful. And we can’t allow people coming into this country who have this hatred of the United States.”
The real estate mogul also referred to President George W. Bush’s Iraq invasion as the “worst decision in the history of the United States,” and called the late Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein as a “terror hunter.”
As a result of the invasion, Trump said, “I think Islam hates us. There’s a tremendous hatred. We have to get to the bottom of it. There is an unbelievable hatred of us,” he said.
Cooper asked whether the war was between the West and radical Islam or Islam itself.
“It’s radical, but it’s very hard to define,” he said. “It’s very hard to separate. Because you don’t know who’s who.”
The difficulty in separating the jihadists from peaceful Muslims was the reason he called for a temporary halt on the immigration of Muslims earlier in his campaign.
