Donald Trump is calling upon Sen. Marco Rubio to suspend his presidential bid and make it essentially a two-man race between the real estate developer and Ted Cruz, the senator from Texas.
“I think Marco Rubio had a very, very bad night and personally I call for him to drop out of the race,” Trump said at a West Palm Beach, Florida press conference.
“I really think so, I think it’s probably time. I don’t think he can get up and rant and rave. You got to be able to win,” he added.
“I would love to take on Ted one-on-one,” Trump said, adding that Cruz would have little chance of victory in liberal states like New Jersey, Pennsylvania and California.
Cruz was the declared winner in the Kansas and Maine caucuses, taking 48 and 46 percent of the vote respectively, while Trump won Kentucky caucus and the Louisiana primary with 36 and 41 percent respectively.
Trump couldn’t help taking as shot once again at the Texas senator’s Canadian birth.
“He should do well in Maine because it’s very close to Canada, let’s face it,” Trump said.
So far, Trump leads in delegates with 378. Cruz has 295 and Rubio has captured 123. Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 34. Florida’s 99 delegates are up for grabs on that state’s February 15 primary.
