The Oscars have nothing on MSNBC according to one liberal Democrat.
U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez took to the House floor on Wednesday to condemn NBC News and MSNBC for a lack of diversity in response to Melissa Harris-Perry’s recent departure from the network.
Standing next to a visual displaying the hashtag #NBCsoWhite, Gutierrez even dragged Donald Trump into the fray.
“What’s going on at NBC?” he asked. “Last week, Wake Forest University professor and MSNBC television host, Melissa Harris Perry, was abruptly pulled from the airwaves without even a chance to say goodbye.”

Never mind the fact that Harris Perry ripped her MSNBC bosses and even played the race card, claiming she was “utterly silenced” because her show was preempted on a couple of occasions, and then took it even further saying that there was a “culture of fear” at the network.
Gutierrez, among the more liberal Democrats in Washington, was “sad” to see Harris Perry go, and also pointed to former network hosts Jose Diaz-Balart and Alex Wagner in criticizing NBC.
“Forgive me for not noticing just how much progress NBC was making on diversity when some of the most visible people of color at NBC like Alex Wagner, Melissa Harris-Perry, and Jose Diaz-Balart are disappearing.”
“But let’s be clear, this is not about quotas, window dressing, or checking the diversity box,” he added. “Journalists of color bring a different texture, a different perspective on what issues matter and what should be discussed and debated on television.”
In making his case against the network, Gutierrez pointed to last year’s “great NBC racism flip-flop,” when Trump was brought in to host “Saturday Night Live.”
If Gutierrez really wants diversity, perhaps he should look to the Republican party, which has featured this year what may be the most diverse field of presidential candidates in U.S. history.
