The Cruz campaign was left with egg on its face Sunday.
It was incorrectly reported that Sen. Marco Rubio mocked a Ted Cruz campaign staffer for reading the Bible. Compounding the error, Rick Tyler, the Communications Director for the Texas Republican’s run for the White House, posted the misinformation on his Facebook page.
The falsehood stemmed from a YouTube video of the Florida Republican entering a hotel lobby and encountering the young staffer reading a Bible alongside Cruz’s father.
The audio is mostly garbled and indecipherable, but subtitles were added to the video — but they were inaccurate.
“Got a good book there,” Rubio said to the young Cruz staffer, according to the subtitles. “Not many answers in it, especially that one.”

However, that’s not what Rubio said at all.
Shortly after the video was published, and re-published by Tyler, Alex Conant, Rubio’s own communications director, tweeted this:

After realizing the error, Tyler deleted his original entry and posted an apology to his Facebook page:
