Hillary cracks under weight of simple question: ‘Have you always told the truth?’

At a CBS News interview Thursday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was visibly uncomfortable as she repeatedly dodged CBS anchor Scott Pelley’s questions about her honesty (or lack of it) to the American people.

If you want to know what a little kid looks like when he claims that he hadn’t been in the cookie jar, while the crumbs on his face tell a different story, this is it.

CBS transcript:

PELLEY: You talk about leveling with the American people. Have you always told the truth?

CLINTON: I’ve always tried to. Always. Always.

PELLEY: Some people are gonna call that wiggle room that you just gave yourself.

CLINTON: Well, no, I’ve always tried —

PELLEY: I mean, Jimmy Carter said, “I will never lie to you.”

CLINTON: Well, but, you know, you’re asking me to say, “Have I ever?” I don’t believe I ever have. I don’t believe I ever have. I don’t believe I ever will. I’m gonna do the best I can to level with the American people.

National Journal political editor Josh Kraushaar threw out this tweet, which set the ball rolling.

Her squirming under Pelley’s questions evoked memories of past Clinton lies.

Clinton does very few interviews, and she’s usually thrown softball questions. With any luck, Thursday’s encounter with Pelley will mark the end of that era.

Editor’s Note: The original article published by BizPac Review incorrectly labeled Josh Kraushaar as the political editor of the National Review and has been updated and amended to correctly designate Kraushaar as the political editor of the National Journal. We apologize for the confusion and did not intend to misrepresent the party’s affiliations.
