Donald Trump threatened Monday that he may file a lawsuit against presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz if he doesn’t apologize for allegedly lying about the businessman’s positions on issues such as abortion and the Second Amendment.
As the February 20 South Carolina primary draws nearer, the rancor Trump has toward the Texas Republican has escalated exponentially and seemed to come to a head at a Monday press conference.
Trump indicated that if Cruz doesn’t apologize for remarks he’d made about Trump’s positions, he will file a lawsuit challenging the Canadian-born senator’s eligibility to serve as president.
“He’s printed lies. He said I’m pro-choice and I’m pro-life,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question Monday.
“Now, he’ll apologize, but I don’t want an apology after the election — I want it before,” he continued. “And if he doesn’t, I’m going to bring a lawsuit, because in my opinion … he doesn’t event have the right to serve as president or even run as president.”
