Did media hold name of machete-wielding maniac who ‘targeted’ Israeli business?

Police killed a suspect who attacked an Ohio restaurant’s patrons with a machete as they sat eating their meals Thursday night.

The suspect, Mohammad Barry, was shot and killed by law enforcement after injuring four people at the Nazareth Restaurant and Deli in Columbus, Ohio, CBS news reported.

Investigators are currently trying to determine if the man, named Mohammad, attacked the restaurant, named Nazareth, as an act of terrorism, according to CBS.

“There was no rhyme or reason as to who he was going after,” Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner told CBS.

“Right now there’s nothing that leads us to believe that this is anything but a random attack,” he added.

The restaurant’s owner Hany Baransi believes his establishment was intentionally targeted.

“Obviously we were targeted because there’s a whole bunch of businesses around here,” the Israeli owner told the Columbus Dispatch. “I’m the only foreigner.”

Frightened customer Karen Bass described the chaos to CBS affiliate WBNS.

“He came to each table and just started hitting them,” she said. “There were tables and chairs overturned, there was a man on the floor bleeding, there was blood on the floor.”

“I fell like five times. My legs felt like jelly. I just thought he was going to come behind me and slash me up,” she added.

According to police, many of the customers and employees did their best to fight off the assailant before he ran out.

“Some of the patrons there started throwing chairs at him just trying to get him out of there,” Weiner said.

The fleeing suspect led police on a car chase before exiting his vehicle and going after police with the machete.

Officers tried unsuccessfully to subdue Barry with a stun gun before resorting to lethal force and killing him.

The restaurant is now closed and Baransi doesn’t know if it will ever reopen.

“Obviously I cannot do it on my own,” he told the Dispatch. “I need to see if (the staff) still like me, if they still want to work for me.”

There were plenty of responses to the attack on social media. Some of which claimed the media had the name several hours before they released it to the public.
