One candidate stood head and shoulders above them all.
Pollster Frank Luntz was on hand at Thursday’s Fox News Republican presidential debate, along with a focus group of Iowa voters, who reacted to the answer to one of the toughest questions of the evening with applause.
The candidate was Sen. Marco Rubio, and the question dealt with his controversial immigration policy.
Only three focus group members indicated they supported the Florida Republican prior to the debate; a majority supported him afterwards.
“That’s the impact of a single debate,” Luntz told Fox News host Megyn Kelly.
“Organized,” “confident,” “presidential,” and “prepared” were some of the words used to describe Rubio.
“Rubio is aspirational,” said one. “He seems to have a vision for this country and it’s a vision I want to live in.”
Luntz indicated that the highest score of the evening was when the Floridian exhibited “a little bit of humor” and respect for the military in describing Democratic presidential candidates.
“I think Bernie Sanders is a good candidate for president — of Sweden,” Rubio said at the debate. “And Hillary Clinton is disqualified from being commander-in-chief of the United States.”
