Social media lit up Saturday with calls for Sean Penn’s arrest after Rolling Stone ran a piece detailing a “secret” 7-hour interview the actor conducted with notorious Mexican drug kingpin, Joaquin (El Chapo) Guzman — the magazine ran the article after The New York Times broke the story about the interview.
The silver lining being that Mexican authorities are saying the hard-left actor helped them capture the murderous fugitive.

Titled “El Chapo Speaks: A secret visit with the most wanted man in the world,” the article recounts Penn’s visit somewhere deep in the Mexican jungle with the drug lord who escaped from prison in July through an underground tunnel, according to the New York Daily News — his second successful escape from Mexican authorities.
Taking place in the jungle doesn’t mean it was a primitive adventure, as the men enjoyed shots of tequila and a buffet of tacos, enchiladas, chicken, rice, and carne asada.
In addition to boasting of his drug empire, El Chapo was reportedly trying to make a movie deal, CNN reported.
The meeting was set up by Mexican actress Kate del Castillo and took place in October — both Penn and del Castillo are reportedly under investigation by the Mexican authorities, who say they “had knowledge” of the interview.
Authorities also said it helped lead them to the drug lord’s hideout in the Mexican seaside city of Los Mochis.
Guzman was arrested early Friday when the Mexican navy stormed his lair. Five suspects were killed in the ensuing shootout, with one navy personnel injured, according to CNN.
He is being held in the same maximum security prison from which he escaped. Mexico plans to extradite Guzman to the United States, where he faces drug trafficking charges — assuming he sticks around long enough for that to happen.
“Since Guzman Loera has been recaptured, the beginning of the extradition proceedings should begin,” the Mexican attorney general’s office said in statement.
Rolling Stone released a two minute video clip of El Chapo’s exclusive interview before his recapture:
The reason Penn offered as to why he didn’t turn El Chapo in was because the drug lord’s trust “was not to be f***ed with.”
That and because the Hollywood moonbat was in his “rhythm.”
“I take no pride in keeping secrets that may be perceived as protecting criminals, nor do I have any gloating arrogance at posing for selfies with unknowing security men,” the actor wrote. “But I’m in my rhythm. Everything I say to everyone must be true.”
More realistically, Penn feared for his life.
“The trust that El Chapo had extended to us was not to be f***ed with,” he added. “This will be the first interview El Chapo had ever granted outside an interrogation room, leaving me no precedent by which to measure the hazards. I’d seen plenty of video and graphic photography of those beheaded, exploded, dismembered or bullet-riddled innocents, activists, courageous journalists and cartel enemies alike.”
