The popular Youtube channel Hickok45, featuring backyard gun enthusiast Greg Kinman, was shut down Tuesday night for some unknown reason.
The termination occurred later the same day President Obama made a passionate appeal to the nation, calling for a “sense of urgency” to reduce gun violence while announcing unilateral steps he was taking via executive action.
Visitors were met with a message saying the page had been shut down for “repeated violations of Google’s policies.”
“Apparently, Google+ is more sensitive about firearms related postings and such,” Kinman wrote on Facebook, according to Guns.com. “I never use Google+ and did not even realize the videos were being posted over there, I guess.”
The shut down prompted a wave of outrage from fellow gun enthusiasts on social media and the channel was eventually restored Wednesday afternoon, Guns.com reported.

Proclaiming “life is fragile, especially ‘virtual’ life,” Kinman posted this message on Facebook once back up:
We’re BACK! It was a long scary morning. I really don’t know what I’d do if I were not able to inflict lame humor upon…

Guns.com reported that while it was unclear what policies may have been violated, “advertising on YouTube is coordinated by Google AdSense, which has guidelines separate from YouTube’s policy for terms of service and community guidelines.”
Guidelines that say Google ads are not permitted to appear on websites that sell, facilitate or advocate the sales of weapons or weapon accessories.
Hickok45 supporters — who haven’t lost their sense of humor — were thrilled to hear the page channel had been restored, based on the reaction on social media. Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:

@hickok45 I wonder if the dictator/president’s communist anti-gun rant yesterday had anything to do with it.

@YouTube doesn’t deserve the revenue after pulling that crap. @hickok45, it’s time for a new video platform.
