Wayne Rogers, best known for playing the beloved Trapper John on the iconic TV sitcom “M*A*S*H,” died on New Years Eve.
Rona Menashe, his publicist and longtime friend, told The Associated Press that Rogers, 82, died Thursday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia.
The duty of announcing Rogers’ death on the Fox News Channel fell to Eric Bolling, who was co-hosting the network’s New Years Eve show, “All-American New Year,” with Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Rogers, who built a successful career as an investor and money manager, appeared regularly on “Cashin In,” a weekend show on the network that Bolling also hosts. With a shaky voice, Bolling described Rogers as “a very, very dear friend of mine.”
Rogers drew plenty of attention last year when he exploded on another regular on the show, Michelle Fields, calling her “a moron” and screaming, “Will you shut up?”
Clearly, the fences were mended between the two, as Fields responded on social media to news of his death, calling him a “great man.”
He was a great man & a straight shooter. Will miss him https://t.co/b1OkWQMoVE

Alan Alda, who played Hawkeye Pierce on “M*A*S*H,” also posted a touching message on social media. The characters played by Alda and Rogers, who was only on the show from 1972-1975, were named in a TV Guide poll as favorite television comedy duo, according to The New York Times.
He was smart, funny, curious and dedicated. We made a pact to give MASH all we had and it bonded us. I loved Wayne. I’ll miss him very much.
