This is going to go over real well.
Feeling their “privilege,” a Utah-based website has erected a billboard advertising a dating service for white people, according to Fox 13 Salt Lake City.
The website — “Where White People Meet.Com” — says their objective is “to connect like minded people in a non discriminatory fashion.”
The unidentified operators clearly don’t subscribe to a long accepted double standard in America that says pride and exclusivity in one’s race is only permissible for non-Caucasians. A double standard that can be seen with a cursory glance at the Internet, which shows numerous exclusive dating sites for other races.
The reasoning behind the dating service, assuming it’s legitimate — Fox 13 said it’s working to confirm the validity of the site — comes down to a simple concept: “Why not?”
The website’s “About Us” page states:
“I am sure some of you are wondering about the concept and need for a dating website titled “Where White People Meet.Com”. Our answer to that would be why not? There are various dating websites that promote and cater to just about every origin, race, religion and lifestyle out there. So again, why not “Where White People Meet.Com”?
According to the website description, “anyone” can join the site. The operators say “we believe that all people, regardless of race, creed, color or religion deserve to be happy and that no one should go through life alone.”
Michelle Dessau told Fox 13 that she disagrees with the exclusionary view.
“I just feel we should be past that whole mindset of staying within our own race and segregation pretty much,” Dessau said.
Kim Gilbert was more concerned about what it teaches children.
“I just don’t think it’s the way to teach our kids to love all when you see billboards like that,” Gilbert said.
