Trump says Putin’s innocent until proven guilty: ‘Has anybody proved he’s killed reporters?’

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump defended Russian President Vladimir Putin, when prodded by media, and remarked that there was no evidence that he’d killed any journalists.

During a telephone call on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, host George Stephanopoulos asked Trump about his defense of Putin recently, where he remarked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that America kills plenty of people itself.

In response  to that statement, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney tweeted:

“Does he know for a fact that he kills journalists?” Trump asked of Romney. “I don’t think anybody knows that, it’s possible that he does, but I don’t think it’s been proven. Has anybody proved he’s killed reporters?”

“There are many allegations he was behind the killing of Anna Politkovskaya–” Stephanopoulos said before Trump interrupted.

“Sure, there are allegations,” Trump said. “I’ve read those allegations over the years. But nobody’s proven that he’s killed anybody as far as I’m concerned. If he has killed reporters, that’s terrible…” Trump added. “He’s always denied it. You’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, at least in our country.”
