A family in Florida is facing a lawsuit by the city over their Christmas light display.

Despite the massive display being on private property, the city of Plantation and its mayor appear to be acting like Scrooge by suing residents Mark and Kathy Hyatt.

Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” dispatched Jesse Watters  to the Sunshine State in the spirit of Christmas, hoping to help resolve the dispute.

Visitors to the Hyatt display had only positive responses and even neighbors said the annual attraction brings happiness to the community each year. The display is continuing even though the city has filed a lawsuit claiming the light show is a public nuisance.

“Scrooge is occupying City Hall,” said Watters, who confronted Mayor Diane Veltri Bendekovic, saying the lawsuit “isn’t a very good use of taxpayer money.”

The mayor appeared annoyed by Watters’ questions and only replied to his comments after he said “I don’t think Santa’s going to be happy with you.”

“I don’t think you should be voicing your opinion, what Santa wants and what Santa doesn’t want,” she said, only shrugging in response when Watters said “I have a feeling you might be getting coal in your stocking.”

Homeowner Hyatt said Bendekovic had previously been supportive but “she flip-flopped once she became mayor.” Watters cited “personal issues” and “political situations” as the underlying reasons for the lawsuit, saying, “She’s vindictive, from what I understand.”
