We may finally have a reason why President Obama seems to have no clue about how Americans are feeling these days.
It was a year ago when White House spokesman Jay Carney told CNN’s Brian Stelter that the president doesn’t watch much cable news, instead preferring the old fashioned newspapers.
A year later the New York Times published this interesting tidbit.
In his meeting with the columnists, Mr. Obama indicated that he did not see enough cable television to fully appreciate the anxiety after the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.
Stelter caught the quote, tweeted it to his followers and asked if President Obama needed to watch more cable news.

Interestingly, after Stelter’s tweet picked up steam, the Times reportedly removed the quote from its article without a trace. Except, of course, for inconvenient screenshots. The new paragraph reads as follows:
Mr. Obama argued that while there were potentially threats that would merit the kind of investment of lives and money equivalent to that made in the Iraq war, the Islamic State does not pose an existential threat to the United States and therefore the response should be measured. The United States needs to take on the group, in part to defend allies in the region, he said, but it should not be an all-out war. Moreover, he added, part of the group’s strategy is to draw the United States into a broader military entanglement in the region. A sustained but limited campaign may be slow and politically unsatisfying, but ultimately will be more successful, he contended.
Social media had a lot to say about the whole episode.
@brianstelter @huttod50 ..but I thought the Cable news was the only way our POTUS got his intel “I learned this news when everyone else did” — Karina (@scented444) December 18, 2015

@brianstelter @EWErickson It’s really easy to switch the channel from ESPN to a news show. Maybe he can appoint a czar to teach him how. — America’s Tears (@AnnKateri04) December 18, 2015
.@brianstelter I guess ESPN needs to step up its terrorism coverage to better inform him… — Burnham (@NathanABurnham) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter In his defense, coverage on The Golf Channel was pretty sparse. Announcers were muted. — Steve Maley (@VladimirRS) December 18, 2015

@brianstelter He doesn’t watch the news because it would take him out of his safe space – he’d learn that the world isn’t what he thinks. — WhyteNoize (@InfernalDante86) December 18, 2015
@brianstelter that’s what happens when you surround yourself with yes men telling you how great you are. #JVTeam #ISISisContained — Brian Dillon (@BPDillon) December 18, 2015
