It’ll be interesting to compare the response from Star Wars fans to MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry suggesting the iconic movie has racist overtones to the reaction Fox News contributor Katherine Timpf experienced after saying she had no interest in “watching space nerds poke each other with their little space nerd sticks.”
While discussing the premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” over the weekend, Harris-Perry took issue with dark side disciple Darth Vader, but it wasn’t because of his penchant for evil doing.
“I know why I have feelings — good, bad, and otherwise — about Star Wars,” she said. “And I have a lot. I could spend the whole day talking about the whole Darth Vader situation.”
“Like, the part where he was totally a black guy whose name basically was James Earl Jones, who, and we were all, but while he was black, he was terrible and bad and awful and used to cut off white men’s hands, and didn’t, you know, actually claim his son,” Harris-Perry babbled.
She continued with her divisive tactics, raining on the parade of excitement Star Wars fans are feeling over the new movie.
“But as soon as he claims his son and goes over to the good, he takes off his mask and he is white,” she added. “Yes, I have many, many feelings about that, but I will try to put them over here.”
While the legendary actor Jones “lent his deep, booming voice to the dark, foreboding presence of Darth Vader” in the Star Wars film, as Cinema Blend aptly characterized his contribution, the actor who played the villain in the original Star Wars trilogy was David Prowse — who is every bit a Caucasian.
Not that facts have ever deterred the MSNBC host from shaping a narrative.
Harris-Perry later said when she had African-American barbies as a child, she married them off to the Star Wars character Chewbacca instead of the creepy ass cracker Ken doll, which prompted Mediaite to question if she was comparing black men to Wookies.
A video clip of this can been seen here.
Timpf received death threats after dissing fans of the movie, but it remains to be seen how they respond to Darth Vader being called a racist.
