Trump cancels end-of-year meeting with Netanyahu; sour grapes or strategic move?

Donald Trump raised eyebrows today for postponing a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu that was set for later this month.

Just a few days ago Trump had tweeted his excitement about the meeting:

But today, it’s all changed:

Many suspect the abrupt cancellation was provoked by Netanyahu’s condemnation of Trump’s “Muslim ban.”

“Prime Minister Netanyahu rejects Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Muslims,” a statement by the Prime Minister read. “The State of Israel respects all religions and strictly guarantees the rights of all its citizens. Netanyahu reiterated that Israel is fighting against “militant Islam that targets Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike,” and was still planning on meeting with Trump despite the disagreement, the UK Independent reported. But now Trump has other ideas, and released the statement that he will meet with Netanyahu only after he becomes president. Trump received a mixed reaction via Twitter:

“Hold tight” is right.
