FBI director gives update on Hillary email probe; says Obama’s opinion irrelevant

Director of the FBI, James Comey appeared before the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday and gave an update on the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Comey told the committee that politics would not play a role in the investigation and added that President Obama has not been briefed on the investigation.

“In a 60 Minutes interview, President Obama declared in a response to a question about Secretary Clinton’s use of a private server, ‘I can tell you that this is not a situation in which America’s security was endangered,'” Sen. Chuck Grassley said. “How can you assure the American people that you will not let the White House influence the FBI’s inquiry?”

“I hope the American people know the FBI well enough and the nature and character of this organization. As I’ve said many times, we don’t give a rip about politics,” Comey responded.

He further insinuated that Obama’s opinion on the investigation is immaterial.

“Anybody’s view about an investigation they’re not involved in is irrelevant,” he said. “We care about finding out what is true and doing that in a competent, honest and independent way. I promise you that’s the way we conduct ourselves.”

Comey also implied that State Department computers were seized in the investigation in addition to Clinton’s private server.
