How low can they go?
The White House wasted no time in condemning Donald Trump following his comments that he would temporarily ban Muslims from entering the U.S..
Many feel they took it too far.
Spokesman Josh Earnest read from a prepared statement during the White House press briefing Tuesday that took shots not only at Trump’s comments but his personal appearance.
“Let me just step back and say that the Trump campaign for months now has had a dustbin-of-history-like quality to it. From the vacuous sloganeering to the outright lies, to even the fake hair, the whole carnival barker routine that we’ve seen for some time now,” Earnest said.
“What Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president,” he added.
One reporter asked incredulously why the White House would comment on Trump’s hair and in typical Josh Earnest fashion his retort made no sense.
“Well I guess I was describing why it would be easy for people to dismiss the Trump campaign as not particularly serious,” Earnest said of the campaign that is leading the polls by a wide margin.
“Because of his hair?” another reporter asked.
“Well because he’s got a rather outrageous appearance, that’s the hallmark of his campaign and his identity, though, that’s the point I’m trying to cite there,” Earnest replied.
“How do you know that it’s fake?” asked yet another reporter.
“Well I guess I’m happy to be fact checked,” Earnest said.
The White House spokesman also did his best to tie every Republican in the presidential field to trump’s comments.
“They should say right now that they will not support him for president,” he said.
“Say right now that they would not support Donald Trump for president. What he said is disqualifying and any Republican who’s too fearful of the Republican base to admit it has no business serving as president either,” he continued.
He added that any Republican president who didn’t immediately revoke their pledge to support Trump if he wins the GOP nomination would be disqualified from being president too.
“For Republican candidates for president to stand by their pledge to support Mr. Trump, that in and of itself is disqualifying,” he told reporters.
Yet somehow in Earnest’s mind dismissing the Islamic State as the “JV team” and allowing it to grow into the monster it is today does not disqualify one from being president.
Interesting logic.
