Yale professors resign over combative campus climate, safe spaces BS

ChristakisA pair of Yale professors have resigned their positions because “safe space” protesters created an unsafe space for free speech.

Nicholas and Erika Christakis decided to leave the campus after Erika sent an email about Halloween dress that created campus wide outrage by students who want free speech for themselves but no one else.

“I have great respect and affection for my students, but I worry that the current climate at Yale is not, in my view, conducive to the civil dialogue and open inquiry required to solve our urgent societal problems,” Erika Christakis told the Washington Post in an email.

Christakis’ Halloween email advised students to not worry about being “offensive” with their Halloween costumes and recommended that those who would censor or ban certain costumes practice some of the tolerance they preach about.

That didn’t sit well with the whiners on campus who in one instance surrounded, shouted at and berated Nicholas accusing him, ironically, of not creating a “safe space.”

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education blamed Yale itself for not supporting the couple.

“While Yale did eventually get around to issuing a statement in favor of free expression, it’s hard to imagine that Erika or Nicholas Christakis would have decided to quit teaching at Yale and take a sabbatical, respectively, had Dean Holloway or President [Peter] Salovey consistently shown their support for free expression through their words and actions on campus,” FIRE spokesman Robert Shibley said in a statement.

Yale College Dean Jonathan Holloway said Christakis is paid per course and therefore can decide each semester whether to teach or not.

“It makes the situation more straightforward from a [human resources] point of view,” he told the Post. “I don’t have much to add to her decision.”
