Veteran’s mom auctions Obama’s ‘broken promise’ letter to pay son’s medical bills; means ‘nothing to me’

President Barack Obama’s handwritten broken promise to a mother “to do everything we can over the next four years to support [her] family” is being used to fix the very promise he broke.

Cherry McKimmey sought Obama’s assistance in 2009 to fix the Veterans Administration, which was denying her son the care he needed after being severely burned during his attempt to rescue two fellow soldiers trapped in a truck on fire.

This happened after he was thrown from the truck due to an IED explosion when he was deployed in Iraq.

As a result of his actions, David McKimmey was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor, as well as burns to his hands and face, and the likelihood of losing a leg, according to the Washington Examiner.

Nonetheless, the VA denied McKimmey the special care he needs by categorizing his injuries as minor.

Obama made his written promise to right that wrong in July of 2009.

It reads “Cherry – Thank your for your note. We are grateful for your son’s service, and Michelle and I intend to do everything we can over the next four years to support your family and other military families. God Bless, Barack Obama”

Six years later, McKimmey decided to put the letter up for auction to pay for that which the president promised but failed to do.

“Something good might as well come out of that,” Cherry McKimmey told the Examiner. “It is doing no good lying in my drawer. It means absolutely nothing to me.”

She and her husband turned the letter over to Alexander Historical Auctions, which is offering it for sale beginning Wednesday. The firm’s president, Bill Panagopulos, expects it will bring in between $3,000 to $4,000.

He also declined his his normal commission.

Panagopulos tied in the VA scandal that plagues the Obama administration with the letter’s description.

“The 2014 Veterans Administration scandal damaged Obama’s reputation, and to many veterans, president Obama failed miserably in his promise” made to McKimmey.

“McKimmey’s son David is among those affected by the breakdown of services. He was 70 percent disabled by an IED explosion which blew him from his vehicle…he now must wait for extended periods of time for tests and care, and is often forced to endure long (and for him, potentially health-damaging) trips out-of-state to obtain treatment readily available nearby. And his family matters are in a state of chaos as he became the sole caregiver to his three infant children. This lot is being sold-commission free to the seller, and a portion of the buyer’s premium will be donated to the seller as well,” pledge the auctioneer.

“It’s for David,” she said of selling the Obama letter. “He’s an awesome, awesome kid.”
