Less than two weeks after the deadly terrorist attack in Paris, more than 3 million spectators turned out for Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Security was tight, but residents and tourists turned out in “huge” numbers for the annual event, according to Reuters.
“You can’t live in fear,” Debbie Irey, a tourist from Salem, Oregon, told the news service. “The police officers with guns in Times Square heightens your awareness.”

Security was everywhere, as various news outlets noted on social media, but that didn’t seem to detract from the holiday spirit:

Not only did Americans turn out in record numbers on Thursday, the New York Police Department, in a show of solidarity with Parisians, marched with the French flag.
Obama’s media excuses him from ‘ridiculous’ American
tradition of pardoning a turkey; it’s beneath him?
“The French flag was held aloft in tribute by the NYPD as dozens of officers took part in the march,” Time Magazine reported.
