Republican presidential contender Marco Rubio has a novel idea on how to dissuade Muslim recruits from joining up with Islamic State militants — show the world how ISIS leaders “cry like babies” when captured.
The Florida senator was speaking in Iowa on Monday about his plan to combat ISIS and responded to a question from a supporter, according to NBC News.
“I believe we should be carrying out attacks against Sunni leadership nodes, videotaping the whole thing and putting it up on Youtube so that the world can see these people are not invincible,” he said.
Rubio said he wanted to instill “second thoughts” in those thinking of joining ISIS.
“I want the world to see how these ISIS leaders cry like babies when they’re captured,” he added. “I want the world to see how these ISIS leaders, once captured, begin to sing like canaries if they survive.”
Woman’s warning to ISIS goes viral: Our weak leader
can’t protect you anymore, Americans WILL get you!
As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Rubio is privy to intel average Americans would never see — which may or may not be the impetus behind his remarks.
Either way, he thinks young Muslims may reconsider joining ISIS when they see “how easily humiliated they are by Americans.”
Rubio also said President Obama’s strategy against ISIS is “all symbolic.”
“It’s all symbolic, it’s all the least amount possible, and I don’t get it — other than the fact he doesn’t want to embroil us in another conflict,” he said.
“Well guess what? We’re embroiled in another conflict, whether he wants it or not, and either they win or we win,” Rubio added. “I know what outcome I want.”
