Saturday Night Live used its cold open to take on one of the biggest hot button issues in America, the Syrian refugee crisis.
The sketch comedy show made fun of one of its favorite targets, Fox & Friends, and did its best to make more intense screening of the refugees look stupid.
Steve Doocy, played by Taran Killam asked Dr. Ben Carson, played by Jay Pharoah how he would separate Christian refugees from the Muslims.
“Weeding out the Islamists would be simple. First we would say you can’t come into this country until I see you eat bacon while singing a Christmas carol,” he said.
“Or all refugees will be given mad libs with the phrase ‘Death to ___’ Anyone who writes America, won’t be allowed inside America,’ Pharoah added.
Making light of the need for intensified screening showed that liberals still don’t understand the danger faced by the West even after the Paris attacks in which two of the terrorists had Syrian refugee passports.
The segment also took a shot at Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Vanessa Bayer, played Elisabeth Hasselbeck who incredulously asked Debbie Wasserman Schultz, played by Kate McKinnon, why she didn’t favor more intense screening of the refugees.
“Elisabeth I’m from Florida. We’re full of refugees. We have Cubans escaping communism, we got Guatemalans escaping drug cartels, and we got old people escaping winter,” she replied.
“If the red states won’t take these refugees I will. We’ll all live in one big house and they’ll be a reality show about it. 19,000 Syrians and counting. Wasserman Schultz out,” she said.
