American teen among those killed in latest wave of terror attacks gripping Israel

Two separate terrorist attacks claimed five lives in Israel Thursday, including that of an American teenager.

Ezra Schwartz, 18, a volunteer from Massachusetts, was among three people killed in the West Bank by a Palestinian firing an Uzi, according to the New York Post.

The other two victims were Israeli, Yaakov Don and Palestinian, Shadi Arafa.

Other American students were also wounded in the attack, according to the Post.

According to Palestinian media, the terrorist was Mohammed Abdel Basset al-Kharoub, 24, of the West Bank.

“I stood in the traffic jam and heard gunfire. The terrorist rammed a car behind me. I got out of my car, pushed his gun away and threw him on the ground,” Yuval Lasri told YTNews. “I didn’t shoot at him because I wasn’t sure that he was the terrorist, but then I saw the gun next to him and understood that he was.”

That attack followed an earlier attack where two worshippers were killed in Tel Aviv by a Palestinian who stabbed them during afternoon prayers at the Panorama office building.

“In the middle of the prayers, suddenly we saw a man fall down wounded at the entrance to the synagogue and behind him a man with a knife who was trying to get inside,” witness Shimon Vaknin told The Times of Israel. “Someone shouted, ‘There’s a terrorist!’”

While some took care of the victims, others slammed the door, according to the New York Post.

“We managed to close the doors and he tried to force them open. If he would have managed to get inside, he would have slaughtered the worshipers,” Vaknin said. “We used all of our strength to not let him inside and then he went on to the nearby shops to try and hurt someone there.”

The two men killed in the attack were Aharon Yesayev, 32, and Reuven Aviram, 51, according to Haaretz.

The perpetrator of the stabbing attacks, Riad Mahmoud al-Masalma, 36, a father of five, was caught by civilians.

He admitted to using a recently obtained work permit to enter Tel Aviv with the sole intention of killing Jews, Haaretz reported.

“We welcome the heroic operation in Tel Aviv that killed two people,” the Islamic terrorist group, Hamas, said in a tweet.. “We call on the Palestinians to continue such activities.”
