Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie‘s stance on Syrian refugees is crystal clear — he would not allow any to set foot on American soil, including even “orphans under the age of five.”
“I do not trust this administration to effectively vet the people who are proposed to be coming in, in order to protect the safety and security of the American people,” he told conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt, Monday. “I would not permit them in.”
When Hewitt suggested “orphans under the age of five,” Christie didn’t budge.
“We could come up with 18 different scenarios,” he told the radio host.
“The fact is, that we need for appropriate vetting and I don’t think orphans under five should be admitted into the United States at this point. They have no family here. How are we going to care for these folks?” the New Jersey governor asked.
“We need to put the safety and security of the American people first.”
