Three of the Islamic State terrorists who slaughtered 129 people in Paris have been named.
One of the killers was revealed as 29-year-old French citizen Omar Mostefai who was identified by his severed finger blown off when he detonated his suicide bomb at the Bataclan Theatre.
Mostefai was known to French authorities as a radical who had a criminal record with convictions for eight petty crimes between 2004 and 2010, according to the AP.
Several of Mostefai’s relatives, including his father and a brother, have also been held for questioning, according to the AP.
“It’s a crazy thing, it’s madness,” his brother told AFP before before he turned himself into police after learning of his brother’s involvement in the attacks. “Yesterday I was in Paris and I saw how this s**t went down.”
His brother said he hadn’t been in contact with his brother for years and the last he was aware Mostefai was in Algeria.
“It’s been a time since I have had any news. I called my mother, she didn’t seem to know anything,” he told the French news agency.
The New York Times reported on Sunday:
Mr. Mostefaï was the middle of five children born to an Algerian father and a Portuguese mother, and he once worked at a bakery, according to a former neighbor at the housing development just outside Chartres where the family used to live.
“It was a normal family, just like everybody else,” said the neighbor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “He played with my children. He never spoke about religion. He was normal. He had a joie de vivre. He laughed a lot.”
For reasons that are unclear, Mr. Mostefaï changed. “It was in 2010, that’s when he started to become radicalized,” the neighbor said. “We don’t understand what happened.”
Serbian newspaper Blic named another attacker as Ahmad al-Mohammad, 25, alleged to be a Syrian refugee whose passport was recovered on his body after he set off his suicide vest.
al-Mohammad arrived on Oct. 3 on the Greek Island of Leros with at least one more of the attackers, Mohammed al-Mohammad, named by the Greek website Protothema who also published pictures of his ferry tickets.
It is alleged that the al-Mohammad took about a month long journey to get to France that included stops in Serbia, Croatia, Austria and Greece masquerading as Syrian migrants.
European officials said they cannot confirm the authenticity of the passports or if they, in fact, belonged to the bombers because there is a robust black market for Syrian passports which are purchased by people looking to get into the European Union under refugee status.
Survivors of the massacre have also claimed one of the shooters in the Bataclan, where at least 89 people were killed, was a woman while one who attacked the Stade de France was reported to be as young as 15-years-old.
Brussels prosecutors have said two of the terrorists were French citizens who resided in Belgium, where two of the vehicles used in the assault were also rented.
Authorities also recovered the vehicle, a black Seat Leon, used by the jihadists who slaughtered people at Casa Nostra pizza and La Belle Équipe café Friday.
Inside the vehicle three AK-47s, five full magazines and 11 empties were recovered.
