A loud and intolerant group of Yale students still won’t let go of their righteous indignation at the horror of Halloween costumes they deem offensive, and have now reportedly resorted to spitting on those with dissenting voices.
Students gathered over the weekend in a raucous protest and called for the resignations of associate headmaster of Yale’s Silliman College, Erika Christakis and her husband, Yale professor Nicholas Christakis.
The commotion stems from an email sent by Mrs. Christakis who told students not to worry about offending people with their Halloween costumes.
“Is there no room anymore for a child or young person to be a little bit obnoxious … a little bit inappropriate or provocative or, yes, offensive?” Christakis wrote. “American universities were once a safe space not only for maturation but also for a certain regressive, or even transgressive, experience; increasingly, it seems, they have become places of censure and prohibition.”
Apparently, the students decided to prove her point as they called for her and her husband, who defended her email, to be ousted out of Yale for speaking their minds.
They even surrounded Nicholas on Thursday, shouting obscenities and demanded his resignation.
According to The Atlantic, the situation degenerated to the point where the miscreant students spit on people gathered for a freedom of speech conference this past weekend.
A large group of students eventually gathered outside of the building on High Street, where several attendees were spat on, according to Buckley fellows who were present during the conference. One Buckley Fellow added that he was spat on and called a racist. Another, who identifies as a minority himself, said he has been labeled a “traitor” by several.
There was plenty of reaction on social media.
