Republican presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson’s “wall of fame” includes one item that some people are saying is a bit over the top — but others strongly disagree.
It’s a portrait of the world-renowned neurosurgeon standing next to Jesus, with Jesus’ arm resting familiarly on Carson’s shoulder.
Although Carson was able to fend off previous media attacks this week with ease, this latest, coming from The Guardian, appears at first blush to be more troublesome.
The Guardian tweeted:
Ben Carson: inside the worldview of a political conundrum https://t.co/z26Musw6ec pic.twitter.com/fIBbgkM2gj

Tom McCarthy wrote in The Guardian:
Numerous profiles of Trump in the last four months have noted his “me-wall”, his in-office shrine to himself. In Carson’s Maryland home, the “me-wall” was a “me-basement”, the walls covered with plaques. Upstairs, Carson’s Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, had pride of place near the front door. A painting of Carson in a surgeon’s coat hung over a mantle where a misspelled Bible verse was engraved. On another wall was a painting of Carson with Jesus Christ – his hand on Carson’s shoulder.
After The Guardian’s article and tweet were published, replies started pouring in, beginning with this:
@guardian Creepy……just SO creepy. — Barb Dignan (@barbdignan) November 7, 2015
But is it creepy? Many went beyond first impressions and tweeted thoughts like these:
@guardian that pic is wonderful

@guardian You don’t understand the belief that Jesus is always with you. This pic illustrates this belief, it is not an ego trip. — louise henning (@shadowvisa) November 8, 2015
@guardian I am a child of God. I have this exact same picture of myself in my heart.

The Guardian laughs at Carson’s “wall of fame.” Fools fail to realize it hides the secret entrance to his Bat Cave. pic.twitter.com/pljuIfkgXt — Patrick Chovanec (@prchovanec) November 7, 2015
@guardian Quite a few doctors used to have their portrait w Jesus.Means he relies on Jesus to guide his hands.Only Christians are fair game. — Kathleen (@teamfrazzled) November 8, 2015
@guardian Cheezy picture. But I missed the part about his not being a top-notch brain surgeon? Did that turn out to be wrong? #RacistDem — WinSton (@WinStonBoSton85) November 8, 2015
Frequent tweeter and conservative columnist Sarah Rumpf injected a little humor:
Guys are we sure the Ben Carson portrait is with Jesus & not a 1980s-era Chuck Norris? Because that would be awesome pic.twitter.com/yxRaRvAecx
— Sarah Rumpf (@rumpfshaker) November 7, 2015
Still another noted that it all comes down to politics for the mainstream media.
@guardian It just really galls you that a black man who has actually accomplished something in his life happens to be a conservative. — Cerberus Smith (@Cerberus76th) November 8, 2015
This is just the latest smear, designed to tarnish the reputation of a good man. It all makes one wonder — when are they going to finally tackle a real scandal, like those coming from Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton?
