Freudian slip, Hillary? ‘I will take steps . . . so former presidents won’t have to declare their criminal history’

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton committed a huge gaffe Friday night when she confused “former prisoners” with “former presidents” while addressing an NAACP banquet in Charleston, South Carolina.

She was telling the participants that she would ban prospective employers from asking job applicants about their criminal history, referring to it as “ban the box”

“Earlier today, I announced that as president, I will take steps to ban the box so former presidents won’t have to declare their criminal history at the very start of hiring process,” she told the audience.

“That way they’ll have a chance to be seen as more than just someone who’s done time. They’ll have a chance to be evaluated on their skills and their work ethic.”

Watch her remarks below.

If it was a Freudian slip, as suggested by Legal Insurrection, which president did she have in mind? Her husband, perhaps, the former President Bill Clinton?

In April of 1999, Clinton was held in contempt of court by Judge Susan Webber Wright, in what The New York Times described as “a scathing 32-page ruling” for lying to the court. But that was civil contempt — not criminal.

Maybe the former secretary of state had her own legal problems in mind. According to the latest reports, FBI director James Comey has taken a personal interest in a possible criminal case against her.

Whomever, social media lapped it up, beginning with conservative actress Stacey Dash, who tweeted:
