Hours after being abandoned in the desert, a five-year-old Arizona girl was found, still clutching the handgun her grandfather gave her before he left.
According to police, Paul Rater, 53, allegedly left his granddaughter with a 45-caliber gun, directions to shoot anyone who approached and then headed to a bar to eat and drink, reported Fox News.
The pair had gone into the desert to go four-wheeling when the truck got stuck.  The girl got tired of walking after they had gone searching for help, prompting her grandfather to leave her behind.
Four hours after desperate searching, the girl’s mother — along with the grandmother and a firefighter — found her, unharmed. They had repeatedly called out her name in the desert until hearing “a small voice cry out ‘Nana,'” Fox reported.
Rater, meanwhile, was found in a nearby restaurant where he was arrested and charged with child endangerment and child abuse, police said, according to Fox.
