The owner of a religious gift shop in Connecticut was shocked to learn that a statue of Jesus was stolen from the front of her store, but what happened next was even more shocking.
Midge Saglimbene, owner of Angels & Company in Monroe, received a call from an employee on Wednesday telling her that the statue had been swiped, according to ABC News.
“There’s a friend that works here sometimes and she was going down Route 25 after Mass,” she said. “She looked over on her way home and noticed that statue wasn’t there and called me.”
Saglimbene called the police to report the theft when she arrived at the store to find the statue missing.
On Sunday, All Saints Day, something unexpected happened.
“The same friend Debbie was going down Route 25 with her son and she looked over and the statue was there,” Saglimbene said, but the statue was not exactly the same.
The chipped and faded statue, which was given to the store owner by a friend who was moving and unable to keep it, was repainted bright and vivid.
“Out of the goodness of their heart they redid the whole statue,” she told ABC News, adding that the good Samaritan didn’t even leave a note. “I just stood in front of [the statue] and just said thank you whoever this was, I will say a prayer for you.”
