Obama’s Department of Education ordered Monday that a suburban school district in Chicago must permit a male, cross-dressing student to use the women’s locker and shower facilities.
After a nearly two-year investigation, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights found, by “a preponderance of evidence,” that Palatine-based Township High School District 211 violated federal law when it barred a transgender student’s use of the girls’ facilities, according to the Chicago Tribune, which reported:.
The student, who has identified as a girl for a number of years, filed a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights in late 2013 after she was denied unrestricted access to the girls’ locker room. District and federal officials negotiated for months, and a solution appeared imminent as recently as last week, when the district put up privacy curtains in the locker room.
But talks stalled after school officials said the student would be required to use the private area, as opposed to offering her a choice to use it. Although the student said she intends to use the private area or a locker room bathroom stall to change, the stipulation constitutes “blatant discrimination,” said John Knight, director of the LGBT and AIDS Project at ACLU of Illinois, which is representing the student.
Ironically, although the student didn’t wish to be relegated to the facility’s “private area,” he/she nonetheless didn’t want to be identified by name “for privacy purposes,” according to the ACLU.
Superintendent Daniel Cates is not happy with the decision, and remains convinced that the district didn’t violate the law. He referred to the Obama administration’s position as “a serious overreach with precedent-setting implications.”
“The students in our schools are teenagers, not adults, and one’s gender is not the same as one’s anatomy,” Cates said in a statement. “Boys and girls are in separate locker rooms — where there are open changing areas and open shower facilities — for a reason.”
Taking it further, at least one celebrated psychiatrist has referred to “transgender identity” as a mental disorder.
“This intensely felt sense of being transgendered constitutes a mental disorder in two respects,” Dr. Paul R. McHugh, former chief of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins said. “The first is that the idea of sex misalignment is simply mistaken – it does not correspond with physical reality. The second is that it can lead to grim psychological outcomes.”
As a result, Johns Hopkins no longer performs sex reassignment surgery.
Conclusion? The Obama administration now apparently supports and enables mental disorder.
