Protesters descended from the balcony of the stadium that played host to the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers during Monday Night Football to protest a local bank, but the question on everyone’s mind is how they pulled it off.
What does it say about the state of security in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina? Two men were able to bring all of that gear into the stadium, ascend to the balcony and rappel with a banner that said “BoA: Dump Dominion, WeAreCovePoint.org” during the third quarter of the game, and remain unimpeded until nearly the end of the game.

The stadium’s website lists types of prohibited bags including “all non-transparent bags or items, including backpacks, binocular/camera cases, cinch bags, computer bags, diaper bags, fanny packs, purses larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″, etc.” It also states that staff has to approve banners and flags prior to a fan being admitted to the stadium.

“The Carolina Panthers may allow a limited number of banners and flags, subject to stadium management approval. In addition, stadium management reserves the right to prohibit banners and flags due to space availability, size or message content,” according to the stadium’s website.
The protesters were angry about the bank’s financial support of the Dominion Cove Point natural gas facility.

A press release from the environmental activists’ website argued that Dominion’s natural gas export facility at Cove Point, Maryland “would drive demand for harmful fracking across the Mid-Atlantic, emit more than 20 tons of hazardous air pollutants each year, and spew two million tons of greenhouse gases, making it Maryland’s fourth-largest climate polluter.”
Social media was more concerned with the seeming ease with which the protesters gained access to the facility with prohibited equipment.

Can we get to the bigger issue here of how people got a huge banner and repelling equipment past stadium security!!!??? #MNF #INDvsCAR — Joey James (@JoeyFootball81) November 3, 2015
To be honest.. those two idiots sneaking repelling equipment into the stadium should cause a great security concern. Is it that easy? #MNF
