State Dept. ‘not aware’ of giving Team Hillary staggering figure she attributed to them

It’s easy to spout facts and figures with confidence when the likelihood of any immediate fact-checking is remote.

House Select Committee on Benghazi chairman Trey Gowdy was struck Thursday by a claim repeated several times by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when testifying before his panel.

The probable Democratic presidential nominee claimed the State Department already “had between 90 and 95 percent of my work-related emails” before she turned over more than 54,000 pages stored on her private server.

“You know, that is maybe the tenth time you’ve cited that figure today,” Gowdy said.

“It is,” Clinton confirmed.

“I have not heard anyone other than you ever cite that figure,” said Gowdy. “Who told you that 90 to 95 percent of your emails were in the State Department system? Who told you that?”

“We learned that from the State Department and their analysis,” Clinton replied.

Gowdy then noted that an inspector general’s report showed that “less than one percent” of Clinton’s emails were captured.

Easy enough, a check with the State Department will clear this up.

Right?

A reporter asked State Department spokesman Mark Toner on Friday about the claim.

“Can you tell us who at the State Department would have informed her aides that 90 to 95 percent had been captured in State Department systems?” the reporter asked.

“I’m not aware that we have given that figure,” Toner said. “I’m not in the position right now to confirm that.”

“I am aware that 90 to 95 percent is something her campaign has been using,” he added. “I am not aware of the source of that.”

Toner then referred the reporter back to the Clinton campaign.

And there you have it, the truth takes another staggering blow at the hands of the Clinton machine.
