Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz, who has made few friends in Washington, runs on the idea that he’s a candidate “who will stand up to Washington,” even if that means his own party.
And did he ever rip into the Republican Party on Sunday.
Speaking with NBC’s Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press,” Cruz said Republican leadership in the House and Senate are more “effective” at passing Democratic policies than Harry Reid.

“The truth of the matter is Republican leadership are the most effective Democrat leaders we have ever seen,” Cruz said. “They’ve passed more Democratic priorities than Harry Reid ever could.”
Ouch.
And while careful not to specifically name Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Texas senator said GOP leaders, especially in the Senate, are “making it easier for Barack Obama and [Senate Minority Leader] Harry Reid to add trillions in debt.”

But Cruz had no troubling naming the outgoing Speaker of the House.
“Why do you think John Boehner is stepping down,” Cruz asked, before answering his own question. “He’s stepping down because the American people are furious with Republican leaders who don’t do what they promise.”
Cruz had a simple message for those who may suggest, as a member of the senate, that he is part of the problem.
“If you’re looking for someone who’s running to be a member of the club, that’s not me,” he said.
